I did payroll for many years in the ICU where I worked. My biggest problems were, not punching in or out, and then not telling me you were there. If I was off I don't know who worked! When people miss their lunch or break they need to let the time keeper know in writting. Many many times people would say I didn't get lunch on Sunday and you didn't pay me! My 1st question was did you leave me a note? NO well I was off Sunday so how was I to know you didn't get lunch if you didn't tell me? And telling me when I'm in the middle of helping with a big tramua doesn't cut it because I will most likely forget by the time I do payroll next week. So write a note and keep a copy. I never tried to screw anyone if they worked and left a note they got paid. Overtime must be paid, it is against the law not to no matter who approved or didn't approve it. The law says you get paid or they can give you comp. time if you want it instead of money. I take the money once I've worked the hours I'd rather have the money than the time off

Oh trust me please when I tell you I keep track of my hours worked. Down to the minute. Minutes count because often they turn into an hour here or there. Every hour of pay is more than an hour without. Keeping track is a must because we cannot trust the nursing home people to do it right and they will try to screw us over.

 this has happened to me at work. I was asked to stay overnight to cover a call out. I did. The nurse asked me. But she didn't get the ok from the DON and they tried to not pay me. Our administrator stepped in to correct the DON. I would have reported the place in a heartbeat if they didn't pay me.
