  • NY CNA of The Year: Ella Pearl Testa

Posted by Kim on June 3rd, 2007 / Print This Post

    This is just cool.

Ella Pearl Testa is one of the oldest people at the Auburn Nursing Home.

And she’s definitely the oldest person there who works a regular 40-hour week.

At 87, Pearl is not a resident she’s the facility’s longest working employee.

A certified nursing assistant, she feeds, showers, moves and cares for the residents most of whom are younger than her.

And she’s so good at her job, she has been named the statewide Certified Nursing Assistant of the Year by the New York State Health Facilities Association.

She was chosen from more than 50 applicants who were nominated by staff, administrators and residents at nursing homes throughout the state. Her age was not a consideration.

In fact, association officials had no idea she was 87.

“I am astounded,” said Karen Morris, director of clinical and quality services.

And is Pearl the oldest person to win this award?

Said Laurie Robertson, the association’s executive assistant: “I don’t think we even have to look that up.”

Read all of this article to get to know Ms. Pearl-Testa better. She is an example to all. She so deserves this award!
