And it may not be a bad thing…

A Kalamazoo nursing home run by Metron Integrated Health System is facing 17 citations after a recent annual survey by the Michigan Department of Community Health and will close its doors by Nov. 16.

“We informed the attorney general Friday and made the announcement Monday” to employees, Metron spokesman David Mix said. “The facility had challenges when we purchased it in 2000, and we felt we could bring it up to the standard of the other eight Metron facilities in Southwest Michigan. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case.”

Mix said the state survey played a role in Metron’s decision to close the facility, Metron of Kalamazoo, at 1430 Alamo Ave. Cascade Township-based Metron Integrated Health System had invested about $2 million in upgrading the facility over the past two years, Mix said.
